Treis has two castles.
The first castle
nowadays known as
Burg Treis, was situated
better on top of the
steep mountain with
a view of the city.
Nowadays you can only
see
the
cemetery.
The second castle, the Wildburg, was build immediately after the first castle was build in order to provide back cover for the first castle. The purpose of this castle was to guard the streets in the valley and the road upwards.
The Wildburg is private property and cannot be visited.

Seit Urzeiten hat dieser Platz oberhalb der engsten Stelle der Moselschlaufe die Menschen angezogen. Die Kelten bauten hier eine Kultstätte, die Römer eine Befestigung. Im Mittelalter stand dort ein Kloster für adelige Augustinerinnen. Der Gebäudekomplex beherbergt heute eine Jugendschulungsstätte des Bistums Trier.
